All About Sapphires
by Olivia LandauWelcome to The Clear Cut classroom, where we take deep dives into all things diamonds and jewelry! Do you love sapphires? If these gemstones speak to you for your next jewelry piece, learn about them here!
Sapphires are part of the corundum family and are an all-time favorite gem of ours. And sapphires are the birthstone for the month of September! Being one of the hardest gems next to diamonds, sapphires land at a 9 on the Mohs hardness scale, with diamonds topping off at a hardness of 10. This makes sapphires a great stone to wear everyday if you want a pop of color in your jewelry.

But blue isn't the only color for sapphires! Sapphires come in all shades of the rainbow, from blue, pink, green, and yellow. The list goes on! Our fine jewelry collection features blue and pink sapphires as options in our gemstone pieces. If you want to create a custom piece of jewelry and envision using sapphires in another color, we can source those options for you and bring your vision to life!

Did you know that we get a completely different name when we have a red sapphire? When a pink sapphire becomes so saturated in color and turns red, we call it a ruby! They are still classified in the corundum family and still maintain the same hardness. Rubies are a great option for everyday wear, too!
What do you think about sapphires? Now that you've got the scoop, take a look at our gemstone collection, including sapphires!
