The cut of a pear shape is very unique. Because of this tear-drop shape, the important factor to consider is the length to width ratio to get the right fit for your finger. For a bottom-heavy pair shape, the best length-to-width ratios to stay between are 1.43 and 1.5.

Pear Shape Ratios

A pear shape that's not too long, not too round, but just right, can fall between a standard length to width ratio of 1.5 to 1.6. Longer pear shapes are just above the 1.5/1.6 ratio and offer more finger coverage, who doesn't love that?

Because of the diamond's elongated shape, you can notice a unique key feature right in the center, called the bowtie effect. The bowtie effect showcases some darkness in the center of the stone and it casts a "bowtie" shaped shadow. In longer pear shapes, it's more noticeable so it's best to go as colorless as possible so the bowtie is subtler.

Pear shapes and clarity go hand in hand. This shape allows small inclusions in the stone, still stunning but easily disguised. SI, SI2 and VS1 are great clarity levels just as long as to your naked eye doesn't catch any imperfections. Plus, the pear shape really enhances the appearance of carat weight. It's possible to have a smaller pear diamond that looks much larger!

Pear shaped diamonds have great features that add femininity and beauty to any engagement ring! Is a pear shape diamond number one on your list?
