First, what are antique cut diamonds? These types of diamonds are hand cut from pre-1930's/1940's before diamond standards were placed. Hand cut diamonds are special because no two stones look alike and have a few standout features that make antique cuts special.
Antique cut diamonds like old European cuts and old mine cuts have chunkier facets, a culet (which is a small faceted point in the bottom center of the stone), a small table facet and a steep crown angle. Each stone has so much character which is why so many people love this choice for their engagement ring.
Most antique cuts you find today come in the lower color range. Low color grades in these shapes is no coincidence. A majority of antique cut diamonds have been recut into modern day round brilliants and cushion cuts. The higher color graded diamonds have been repurposed and many lower color grades have been preserved.

But don't worry! Low color grades in antique cuts is not a bad thing. Because of their facets, light reflects much brighter and whiter than graded. Usually the diamond will face up 2 grades higher in white than marked.

This feature allows you to maximize in size and clarity with color this low.
