Diamond Shapes That Are Trending in 2024

Welcome to The Clear Cut Classroom, where we take deep dives into all things diamonds and jewelry! As we're halfway through 2024, we were curious to find out which diamond shapes were most loved by you! We take a look through our diamond stats from gem., our proprietary software system for diamond clients.

We gathered data from our software system,  gem.,  which holds each client's diamond and design plan in their portal, and found some shocking trend results from 2024 so far! The top 3 fancy diamond shapes we found to be the most sold and most loved were: ovals, cushions and emerald cuts. Let's take a closer look at what specifically made each cut so popular.

Cushion Cuts

The love for cushion cuts is obvious by now in current diamond trends, they're just gorgeous. The data shows that elongated cushion cuts, especially those with a length to width ratio higher than 1.25, sold immediately, within 4 days! The most popular color range we discovered from the data was in the near colorless range (aka G - J). Favored clarity in these diamonds ranged between "VS2" and "SI1". Carat weight varied in cushion cuts but were ultimately popular between 2.20ct to 3.20ct weights.

Oval Cuts

Oval cut diamonds being in the top 3 were no surprise to us! It is also a given that a longer length-to-width ratio featured in oval cuts gained an increase in popularity. Average ratios fell between 1.45 to 1.55, selling in a few days. "H" through "J" colors were the most prominent choices and the eye clean, "SI" range stuck as the best selling clarity feature for oval cuts.

Emerald Cuts

Emerald cuts are so elegant and we are excited to see it make the cut. The classic "tennis court ratio" took a step aside from being best-selling with an emerald cut's 1.45 length to width ratio being the best. An emerald cut's clarity was found to be most common at "VS1" and colors "I" through "K" as well. Larger carat size, over 2.50ct to 3.50ct was what made an emerald cut shine above the rest.

Another interesting statistic for natural diamonds, carat sizes over 4ct and antique cuts were popular requests amongst you all. We found it so amazing and worth noting that 20% of our diamond sales were our clients' first pick from their gem. portal!

Those are our diamond statistics from the first half of 2024, we loved digging into the data and we can't wait to bring you more once the year wraps up!
