What is an antique diamond?

A “lab-grown antique diamond” is, quite simply, an oxymoron. By definition, antique diamonds—such as Old Mine Cuts and Old European Cuts were crafted by hand before the 1930s and 1940s. They are distinguished by their chunky facets, smaller tables, visible culets, steep crown angles, and the subtle irregularities that give each stone its unmistakable charm.

These diamonds were cut in a different era, under candlelight rather than modern scientific methods focused on precision mapping, and their character reflects that history. While the antique look has surged in popularity, no modern-manufactured diamond can authentically replicate the craftsmanship and romance of a true antique.
