Clear Cut Couples: Arlie and Charles
Arlie and Charles met in Boston about three years ago. She was just starting to date after moving to the area and he happened to be her first dating app match. She was a little hesitant at first, but they kept learning new things about one another and Arlie figured they would have plenty to talk about in person. She agreed to meet and he asked to get a drink at 9pm. Arlie said, “I'm an early to bed, early to rise person, so this was a big ask on a week night! He was also running a little late so it ended up being a pretty late night. I thought it went really well, but he thought I wasn't interested. I was probably just tired!” In the end, it all worked out just right and they have been dating for a year and a half!
They soon learned that they had a lot in common. As children, they grew up down the street from each other, and have birthdays a day apart. Charles went to private school, so they never crossed paths in their hometown.
Charles got his acceptance to business school at Wharton and found out he would be moving to Philadelphia in a few months. They talked about dating long distance, but it didn't seem like the right move so early on because Arlie had just moved to Boston, and figured that she would be there a while.
Well… she actually ended up moving to New York City the next year in order to finish out her Speech and Language Pathology degree through NYU. It was an unexpected, but incredible opportunity. Charles also ended up moving to New York City the same month to complete a summer internship. They started hanging out all the time, and decided to date again. They had stayed good friends, and even had some mutual friends that they had met through each other, so they didn't want to jeopardize that. Arlie said, “Having him there over the summer made the city feel even more like home.” AWWW!
So, they ended up dating long distance for a year while he finished up his degree in Philadelphia. Over winter break, they took their first international vacation together! They went on a safari in South Africa, and had a chance to see how they lived with one another 24/7 for two weeks. A couple months later, they were faced with an even more intense experience when they quarantined together in Fairfield with Arlie’s parents. It ended up being seamless and it was clear they were a perfect match! It turns out while they were quarantined and apartment shopping, Charles was planning a proposal! He actually ended up proposing in Fairfield, at a beach down the street from our childhood homes, a few days before they moved back to NYC together. It was really special and they love that fact that they will be able to revisit the proposal spot and relive the experience in the future!
As for their wedding, they are planning to get married next summer in Brooklyn. Congrats you two! We are SO happy for you!!
