Clear Cut Couples: Kristina and Matt
Kristina and Matt met at work! Matt had to give Kristina a tour of the back offices when she first started. She didn’t expect it at the time, but that was the start of something incredibly special, that would lead her to her soulmate. She didn’t suspect that he had a crush on her -- until he asked her on a date. He invited her to one of his favorite events, the Christkindlemarket. It’s a German winter festival in Chicago that used to surround the city’s Christmas tree. The tree has since been relocated, but the market is still very popular and is open roughly Thanksgiving through Christmas. Vendors from Germany travel to Chicago for the event, selling beautiful hand-made goods including tree ornaments, steins, and other unique trinkets. There is always delicious German food that can be found as well as gluehwein, a traditional hot spiced wine. They had wine, walked around the market and made their way to the Cloud Gate in Millennium Park, overlooking the ice rink built for the season. It was stunning, with beautiful lights, and charming music all around them. This is where they had their first kiss. Since then, they have been together for almost 5 years!
They have shared countless memories over the years. Kristina says she feels blessed that they have been able to visit incredible places together. The two love getting away together, especially to warm and tropical places. They love going to Cancun, where they wake up to sunrises together, take long walks down the beach, and enjoy breakfast on a terrace overlooking the ocean. They have also taken trips to Lake Tahoe, played water sports and hiked stunning mountains. They went to Kauai with Matt’s family and loved finding Monk Seals, sunbathing on the beaches, and just being together.
Kristina says it was hard to pinpoint a time when she realized he was the one -- it was more a combination of many little things. He understands her strengths and weaknesses and understands when to support her, when to challenge her, and when help her grow. She says, “Matt is one of the kindest and most generous people I know. Overtime, I realized I would do anything to make sure he is safe and happy and I know he would do the same.” (We’re blushing!)
Matt proposed on a two week adventure through Italy! Kristina says, “It was the most amazing time traveling together, and seeing how cultures change from region to region, each offering amazing history, hospitality, food, and wine!” Approaching their 5 year anniversary, Matt proposed on the trip as the sun was setting over the city of Florence, wandering the Boboli Gardens. Of course, she said YES!
Although she knew had a strong feeling it would happen on this trip, Kristina was surprised because Matt kept the ring in the pocket of his jeans this whole time. No box, no backpack. Completely insane! She is in love with her cushion cut ring with a pave band!
They are in search of a breathtaking country setting at the moment. The plans are to get married in 2020. Congrats you two -- we are SO happy for you!
