Clear Cut Couples: Rudy and Anisha
Rudy and Anisha met when they were both working together in Philadelphia. Initially, they were just colleagues with the occasional powerpoint edit squabble, but as the months went on, casual water cooler talks led to more meaningful conversations. Soon, a strong friendship emerged. Over time, they realized that they cared about each other deeply and their friendship blossomed into something more. They started dating and the rest is history!
It’s hard to pinpoint a “first date” since Rudy and Anisha had many outings as friends before they officially started dating. The first time they both realized they had stronger feelings for each other was at Dutch Eating Place, a great breakfast spot in Philly’s Reading Terminal Market. After devouring a heaping stack of pancakes (second breakfast) on a Saturday morning, they realized that seeing each other 5 days during the work week for 60+ hours was just not enough.
They have been together as a couple for over three years and friends for over four! They have shared so many incredible memories since then. As avid coffee drinkers, they love exploring local coffee shops wherever they are. They have even developed a great rubric for evaluating the coffee experience! When they are not caffeinated, they love binge watching entire seasons of MasterChef (pre- and post- pandemic).
They have taken some really fun trips over the years. One of their favorite trips was to Vermont where they attended the Vermont Brewers festival and sampled some delicious craft beers after a long hike up Camel’s Hump. Another fun trip was to Pittsburgh where they got all decked out to cheer on Rudy’s favorite team, the Steelers, from the sidelines!
Some really special moments in their relationship happened while they were dating long distance from Philly to Boston. Being able to visit each other and each other’s families allowed them to get to know each other’s cultures and traditions more. Rudy is Cuban and Anisha is Bangladeshi. Each trip became a cultural food exchange between both the families.
Rudy proposed to Anisha on Memorial Day Weekend 2021 in Cambridge, MA. He coordinated with both of their families and friends to surprise Anisha at the proposal. Since it was a surprise, one of Anisha’s friends spent the day with her and lured her to Harvard Square with Milk Bar’s Birthday Truffles. It was pouring rain, and somehow Anisha refused to wear a hood or bring an umbrella because she didn’t think she would spend much time outside. While walking through Harvard Yard with a birthday truffle in hand, she saw Rudy, both their families, and their friends waiting for her on the steps of Harvard’s Widener Library. Rudy got down on one knee and asked his best friend to marry him.
It was such a surprise! When Anisha saw the ring for the first time, it was what she had always dreamt of and more. Seeing it for the first time was a surreal experience. Anisha wanted a timeless yet modern ring and she was so happy to know that Rudy worked with Olivia to design and customize each individual part of the ring. Knowing that so much work went into personalizing the ring made it even more special!
They are planning on getting married in the second half of 2023 after they are both done with graduate school. Anisha is currently pursuing a dual MPP/MBA degree from the Harvard Kennedy School and MIT Sloan School of Management and Rudy is currently pursuing an MBA degree from The University of Chicago Booth School of Business. While they have some time to plan, they know they definitely want to incorporate both their Bangladeshi and Cuban traditions in the festivities!
