Clear Cut Couples: Kyle and Katherine

Kyle and Katherine met while attending the University of Maryland. Kyle was on the executive board for the Interfraternity Council (IFC), while she was on the executive board for the sorority Panhellenic Association (PHA). After officially meeting at a philanthropy event, they discovered that they were in a lot of the same classes with both of them being finance majors. This would ultimately lead to Kyle’s first text to her: “Hey Katie this is Kyle Forbes. Are you going to the review session?” After that, they would meet up to study together and began making sure that they were scheduled on the same IFC/PHA shifts for any events.

Katherine says that she experienced what you might call love at first touch. They were attending a weekend long conference in Pittsburgh for fraternity and sorority life. She was crossing a street with a sharp bend when a car came out of nowhere. Kyle then pushed her out of the way to safety. The moment Kyle’s hand touched her back, she realized that she had met her future husband despite hardly knowing each other at the time. They wouldn’t start dating until over a year later and have been together for over 7 years since then! They have shared so many incredible memories over the years. One highlight was walking across the stage together at our college graduation - that is a moment they will never forget. Following graduation, they went on a 3-week Europe trip. In the years since, they have explored various national parks throughout the USA and went to Hawaii.

They have lived in Baltimore for over 5 years now and bought a rowhome in the city in 2020.

Kyle proposed in August 2021 at Swallow Falls State Park near Deep Creek, MD. They had booked a small cabin for just the two of them for a weekend getaway. During the day, they hiked through Swallow Falls, where Kyle had set up a picnic complete with wine, cheese, and a scrapbook of their relationship. After going through the scrapbook, he popped the question! Later that day, Kyle told her that he had made dinner reservations at a surprise location. Once they got in the car, he put a pillowcase over her head so that she could not see where they were going. They arrived, Kyle removed the pillow case, and she found herself in a huge lakefront home full of her closest friends! They spent the rest of the weekend in the large house celebrating with her friends on the water.

The proposal itself was not too surprising for her, but she was not expecting to see all her friends, and was certainly not expecting to be staying in a lakefront mansion (they had booked a tiny cabin!). The ring was exactly what she had asked for. Simple and timeless with an old mine diamond.

They will be getting married in June 2023 in the Shenandoah Valley area of Virginia. Their wedding will have a similar vibe to their proposal, with their closest friends and family staying together in a large house for the weekend. Congrats you two! We are SO happy for you!
