Marissa Cox is a British journalist and lifestyle blogger based in Paris. She started ruerodier.com, inspired by Rue Rodier which is the name of the street where she first lived when she moved to Paris. She has a background in PR and publishing. She started her career at Random House in London and also edited part-time, but she always wanted to have a side gig in the brand space. When she moved to Paris, that was when she decided to start! She was working in digital marketing in the wine industry (Oh la la!) and then decided it was time to go full time on her blog. She documented her journey in Paris and posted about fashion, design, beauty, interiors and so much more. Now, she interviews women to do home tours as well! Committing full time to something that started as a passion project can be a tough decision. For Marissa, she knew in her gut that she had to because she couldn't continue doing both her blog and working. I felt this too when I was deciding to go full time on The Clear Cut -- it was a choice I had to make because working full time and doing The Clear Cut on the side was way too much to handle. It was the best decision that I ever made!
Marissa is inspired by all things fashion and art. To her, being passionate about fashion also means being passionate about interiors and beauty -- they all go hand in hand. Art is also something that she has always been drawn to.
Traditionally, Parisian style is laid-back, monochrome and effortless. Here’s the secret: it is a mentality! Choosing where you put your effort and caring less about how other people perceive you is what Marissa says it key to emulating French style. Here are her tips:
1. Hair can be a bit more undone
2. A good pair of jeans is a staple
3. Not too many high heels! Instead, try low heeled boots and sneakers
4. A classic white t-shirt paired with blazer can never go wrong
She gets her spark from aesthetics, traveling and from art. When she needs a jolt of inspiration her go-to is always exhibitions. You can do this wherever you are!
