How to Chase the Money Not the Man with Serena Kerrigan

Let’s cozy up with Serena F*cking Kerrigan, a CEO, entrepreneur, and internet personality who is also known as the Queen of Confidence. Before launching her own personal brand and Instagram Live show Let’s Fucking Date, Serena worked at Refinery 29 in video production. It was a great place to start her career and develop media skills before ultimately going her own way. Coincidentally, Serena quit her job 3 weeks before the pandemic, which allowed her to focus on being creative without the distractions of everyday life. In this time, she reflected on how the pandemic was a period of loneliness for many people, and so she was inspired to date guys live on Instagram as a way to entertain people and create a community.

Let’s Fucking Date started off as a side show before becoming her main priority when she recognized its popularity. Now, it’s much more than just a show on Instagram Live about Serena trying to find a boyfriend--it’s a business with an entire team, merch line, and sponsors. On this show, Serena hopes to send the message that you should find yourself and then find a guy, rather than find a guy to find yourself. Girls need to put themselves first. 

Now, Serena seems to exude so much self-confidence. However this was not always the case. Serena opens up about how, like most other girls, she was insecure when she was younger because of the patriarchal values ingrained into society. However, she was able to develop self-confidence by changing the way she talked to herself. You need to talk to yourself like a best friend--we are so self critical, but in order to get over that, you need to envision yourself as someone from the outside. It’s all about unlearning and re-learning. At the same time, there is a distinction between being cocky and being confident. Serena explains how cocky people are often insecure and need to put others down in order to feel better about themselves, while confident people can be genuinely happen for other people.

From her dating experiences, Serena has grown from being a girl who wanted to be chosen to a girl who chooses. She has realized that it is also okay to be alone! Serena reminds us that relationships aren’t just romantic relationships--the ones that are equal, or even more important, are our relationships with ourselves and our best friends.
