Today we’re talking about one of our favorite shapes! They’re super finger flattering and are super sparkly! When it comes to color, ovals tend to show color a bit more than other shapes do. I feel comfortable going anywhere between a D to an I color. Within that range, it is all about your personal preference. That can vary a lot from stone to stone. 

When it comes to clarity, ovals are really good at camouflaging inclusions so you have a lot more flexibility!! Usually, VS2 and up you are completely safe and will not see any inclusions. Within the SI1 range, if you are working with a professional you can sometimes find diamonds that are completely eye clean -- it is always best to work with a professional to be sure! 

When it comes to proportion, it totally depends on your style! 1.3 to 1.4 is the most classic ratio! Below will be on the chubbier end and above a 1.4 is more elongated. What I love most about ovals is that they are universal! They flatter every finger and will never go out of style! They are also great at carrying their weight!! This means that they tend to look bigger for their weight compared to other styles. 

One thing you want to avoid is the bowtie effect! Trust me, it sounds much cooler than it is. Working with a professional will make sure you mitigate this. All in all, for ovals it’s important to think about what carat and ratio you want! Make sure it faces up white and bright, has no visible inclusions or the bowtie effect!
