Clear Cut Couples: Abe and Holly

Abe and Holly met in college! During her freshman year and Abe's junior year, they met while working as banquet servers at a nearby country club. Holly was going through a pretty tough time emotionally; her father had very recently passed away from cancer and things were fizzling out with her high school boyfriend, so needless to say she was a bit distracted. It took her a minute to come around and agree to pursue things with Abe, but he patiently waited for her to be ready.

Their first date was classic dinner and a movie—Abe begrudgingly agreed to see Twilight as an attempt to impress her....it worked! She said, “He did keep and eat my Cheesecake Factory leftovers though, which I will never forgive him for.” They have been together for twelve years since then!

Because they’ve been together so long, it's been amazing to not only watch each other grow, but to stand alongside and support one another while doing so. From graduating college students to professionals, becoming cat parents and living together in their beloved Jersey City, they’ve built a pretty amazing life together so far.

One of their favorite things to do together is travel, and they’ve loved every single place they have been together. Whether it's hiking the glaciers in Iceland, zip-lining in Costa Rica, eating all the BBQ in Austin or picnicking under the twinkling Eiffel Tower lights, their adventures just get better and better.

Abe proposed on September 14th in Cape May, NJ! After months of quarantining in their tiny apartment , they finally felt safe enough to take an overnight trip somewhere, and decided Cape May would be the perfect spot for their quick getaway. Unbeknownst to her, Abe had been planning this trip specifically for the proposal!

Abe is passionate about photography, and for some reason was VERY adamant about going to Sunset Beach the evening they arrived to capture some great photos of the sunset. She shrugged it off, thinking he was perhaps a little too excited about these sunset photos, but went along with it. They brought a blanket, a bottle of wine, and the camera tripod/remote clicker to capture his perfect sunset photo.

After a half hour or so of Abe messing around with the camera (with a pretty lackluster overcast sunset, hilariously enough), Abe asked her to take a peek behind the camera to see if she liked the framing, and when she came back to the blanket after doing so, he was on one knee. Holly said, “He took out the ring box, and before he could even open it I screamed ‘SHUT UP!’ and gave him the biggest hug. I pulled back and screamed ‘Yaaaayyy!’ and then Abe finally opened the ring box and officially asked me to marry him.” They sat on the beach for a while just basking in their excitement, and then followed with a romantic dinner and champagne from the year that they started dating, a gift from Holly’s best friend, Katie. It was beyond dreamy!

Holly said, “It was definitely a bit of a surprise—with COVID and just 2020 in general I was under the assumption that our engagement likely wouldn't happen until the end of the year..so when it happened in September I couldn't believe it! And of course I LOVED the ring. I had guided Abe in a certain direction with the ring, but Abe and The Clear Cut really knocked it out of the park. It's perfect!”

As for their wedding, they hope to be celebrating with their family and friends in Spring 2022 in the beautiful Florida Keys! Congrats you two! We are SO happy for you!
