Clear Cut Couples: Kathy and Martin

Kathy and Martin met at a concert in high school! They continued their friendship which eventually turned into a relationship during high school. Martin was a junior and Kathy was a sophomore. They are so proud to be high school sweethearts!

Because they started as friends and were so young, they can’t remember an official “first date,” but Martin remembers listening to a lot of music together with wired headphones, lots of bubble tea, window shopping in Soho, and shooting pool together over the years. Life was a lot less complicated back then! 

Since then, they have been together for 10 years!! Plus, they got engaged on August 29th, which was the day they met one another ten years ago. (8/29/2010) Being high-school sweethearts, they grew up together. Literally and figuratively! They’ve gone through many facets of life together and they’ve been able to learn more about themselves and one another. 

Because they live together and work at home during quarantine, planning the proposal without Kathy noticing was a difficult task to pull off! They landed on Old Westbury Gardens. After numerous calls and e-mails to make sure they were on board, it ended up being absolutely perfect! Martin said, “Everything was set into motion, with the amazing help of our friends, we were able to cater food from our favorite cafe, get a beautiful cake from Tastecreme, and everyone was able to make it. Best part of all, the rain held out! (Hurricane Laura hit around the same time!)” 

Kathy was SO surprised! She had no idea what was going on because she thought that they were going to a ‘Vow Renewal’ hence why they got dressed up with no suspicions. As for the ring, Martin said, “It was everything she ever wanted- and from her favorite jeweler as well. Thanks for making it so customized and accommodating to our budget!”

They are playing things by ear for their wedding. They are thinking of a civil wedding sometime mid year and plan to move to San Diego to start this new stage of life together! Congrats you two! We are SO happy for you!!
