Clear Cut Couples: Monica and Jon
Monica and Jon matched on Bumble and decided to meet at a local jazz bar for their first date in Culver City, CA. They talked for hours and learned so much about each other. They both met there after work on a Monday and ended up staying till nearly closing! They also realized that they lived just a few minutes away from each other. The next day, Jon sent Monica to one of her favorite takeout sushi restaurants, Sugarfish, for dinner which she thought was so sweet as they are both huge foodies and had talked about their love of food/sushi the night before. They started hanging out all the time after their first date. Jon would plan elaborate fun dates. They were going to concerts all the time, saw Monica’s favorite comedians, watched Mean Girls (one of her favorite movies) projected on a skyscraper in LA and explored new restaurants all the time.
They have been together for 5 years now! They met right before the pandemic in LA and ended up quarantining together through COVID. They had so much fun and got so much closer those years and have now moved to Mexico City where they currently live. They have been in CDMX for 2 years now and will be moving to San Francisco soon! They hope that they get to live in many cities throughout their lives! They have shared countless incredible memories. One of their top three favorite moments was going on a yoga retreat together in Yelapa, Mexico! Monica introduced Jon to yoga and it was so fun to wake up at sunrise and do yoga each morning by the ocean, eat vegan for a week and it was a great way to reset post pandemic. They both loved it and felt amazing after!
Moving to Mexico City together is also a highlight, as it was a lifelong dream for Monica. Jon didn't know the language or much about the city, but they were both working remotely during the pandemic and decided, why not?! They’ve had the most incredible 2 years so far - roadtrips, celebrating Dia De Los Muertos, hosting dinner parties, exploring the city & even had Monica’s mom and sister over for New Years Eve!
Lastly, the proposal in Positano is the best highlight of all. Jon booked a romantic sunset cruise for them in Positano that took them all over the Amalfi Coast. They drank some bubbly, listened to music, and as they were approaching the dock, he got down on one knee, said a sweet speech, and the rest is history! It was romantic and perfect!
Monica was completely surprised! She thought it was going to happen the day before, when Jon rented a vintage car for them to drive around Positano at sunset and it was so romantic. Monica wore a white dress, got extra glam in the hopes that he would propose, and he didn't. She was a little disappointed to have wasted her white dress moment and that it didn't happen then, but alas, it was even better when he did it on the boat the following day! She had sent Jon many inspo proposal pics that she loved, so she had an idea of what it might be like.
They are thinking of a destination wedding in the Spring or Summer of 2026. They are planning on buying a home in San Francisco first and getting settled before planning. Congrats you two! We are SO happy for you!
